The Gospel Queen-Biopoem

                                       The Gospel Queen

Mahalia

Bold, strong, joyful

Daughter of Charity, Neece of “Aunt Duke”

Who loved singing, family, and the civil rights movement.

Who hated segregation, and breaking promises.

Who felt fear, happiness, and love.

Who feared segregation would continue, the death of another family member, and racism.

Who was known as the gospel queen, a friend of Martin Luther King, and respected by both the white and the black.

Who wanted to see the end of segregation, and end of racism.

Born in New Orleans.
